Summary

The course is designed for beginning teachers, new WAU coordinators and teachers who have not recently received any science CPD.

Participants will explore resources and strategies which help to foster progression, in both skills and knowledge, ensuring that key themes and topics are not only taught but also revisited in ways that build on prior knowledge and understanding. These will be illustrated using simple but effective classroom activities chosen to engage pupils and progress their learning and understanding.

Key components of the course include:

Curriculum Mapping and Planning: Learn how to develop a comprehensive curriculum map that covers all required themes and topics, ensuring a balanced and inclusive approach to teaching science.

Progression of Skills: Understand how to sequence lessons and activities that progressively develop students' scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and practical skills. The course will cover how to build on prior learning and ensure that students gain increasing competence as they move through the year groups.

Participants will;

  • have the tools and confidence to deliver science that not only meets educational standards but also inspires and equips pupils with a solid foundation in scientific thinking and skills.
  • have a raft of engaging hands-on activities which aim to improve pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills in primary science
  • be equipped to ensure that all aspects of the curriculum are covered while fostering a logical progression in scientific skills and knowledge..
  • have gained insights into assessing pupils' understanding and skills development, allowing for targeted support and adaptation of the curriculum to meet diverse learner needs.
