Jet Suit STEM Resources

This suite of resources consists of informative posters, using the context of the Jet Suits, to cover a number of topics from Newton’s Laws and forces, through combustion and energy transfer, to human biology and 3D printing.

Gravity Industries Ltd. designs, builds and flies Jet Suits.  The Jet Suits include five gas turbine jet engines, generating 144kg of thrust to allow vertical lift and human propulsion.

Energy transfer

This resource looks at energy transfer, work done, energy efficiency and Sankey diagrams, in the context of the Gravity Jet Suit.

3D printing the Gravity Jet Suit

Parts of the turbine engines for the Gravity Jet Suit are made through additive manufacturing, through a type of 3D printing using sintering of powdered metal.  This process is explained in this resource.

Resultant forces

There are a total of five turbine engines on the Gravity Jet Suit.  This resources uses the suit to look at resolving forces and free body diagrams.

Sound waves

The Gravity Jet Suit creates a lot of noise.  This resource explains how sound waves travel and are detected by the human ear.
