Modern materials: coated metals
A coated metal has a coating applied to the surface to enhance or change its functional or aesthetic properties. This resources explores the topic of coated metals, specifically anodising, galvanising, powder coating, dip coating, electroplating.
Dip Coating
This resource from Boxford describes the development of a CNC routed dip tank for the dip coating process. Exemplar CAD files and a supporting video are provided. Photographs show the assembled dip tank and the dip coating process is described. Materials, tools and equipment needed both to make the tank and complete the dip coating process are
given.
Finishes for wood
In this lesson students will develop an understanding of finishes that can be applied to timber to enhance their properties. Students will complete a finishes worksheet throughout the lesson; creating future revision notes. Lessons learnt knowledge will be tested in a series of exam style questions with provided answers for peer marking.

Finishes which can be applied to improve paper and board properties
Within this lesson students will develop an understanding of different finishes which can be applied to both paper and board to enhance their appearance and/or improve their function. Students will understand the main properties and uses of paper and boards.
