Differentiation: supporting able students In STEM
This two-part course supports you in providing differentiation for high ability students and ensuring that they are sufficiently challenged to fulfil their potential. It will enable the translation of exemplary practice and current research on more able students into highly effective and engaging teaching and learning strategies. Sessions include enquiry skills, promoting higher order thinking and rich questioning. You will experience a wide range of challenging practical teaching strategies and explore extension and enrichment activities that can be used to give breadth and depth.
Teachers or technicians working in state-funded schools in England are eligible for an Enthuse bursary which can be used to contribute to covering the cost of course fees, supply cover, travel, accommodation, or equipment for your school.
Differentiation: visible progression for all
This course supports you in providing differentiation for all students and ensuring that they can demonstrate progress in learning. It will enable the translation of exemplary practice and current research on students learning into highly effective and engaging teaching and learning strategies.
Sessions include enquiry skills, promoting thinking and rich questioning. There will also be analysis of the new codes of practice in SEN and recommendations for those receiving the pupil premium to support teaching and learning.
You will be able to:
- deliver a range of science activities particularly suited to supporting the engagement and progress of all students
- develop and expend your range of teaching and learning strategies that promote differentiation in the classroom
- enrich and enhance the curriculum for students using a variety of exciting ideas to engage all learners
- plan to implement learning to make an impact in your own school

Differentiating learning in STEM teaching
This free online course is designed to help teachers to improve their understanding and use of Differentiating for Learning within the STEM subjects.
Learners will:
- be introduced to some of the key principles of effective differentiated learning and then focus on differentiating by task using examples from the STEM subjects
- be provided with a range of practical ideas of how they can best respond to the assessment evidence they elicit from their students
- be encouraged to try out activities, share thinking and materials developed with their peers, the educators and mentors
- be taken through a developmental journey where they can discuss ideas, apply them to their own context, analyse their thinking, synthesise points and evaluate their current approach in order to help shift their practice.
