Seeing and Light

Work done in this Nuffield 13 to 16 module followed from the unit called ‘Senses’. This B unit provided enough material for six double periods in the third year of secondary school (year nine). The teachers’ guide included 11 worksheets to supplement the students’ booklet. The general introduction in the teachers’ guide explains that in this unit an attempt was made, as in Nuffield Secondary Science and Nuffield Revised Physics, to devote most time to personal experience of the images; to follow up with the behaviour of beams of light as detected by scattering with smoke or other means; and only to attempt the conceptually difficult link between the two towards the end of the exercise.
