Nuffield Advanced Biology Topic Review: Interactions

The Nuffield Advanced Biology Topic Reviews for students were an integral part of the Advanced Biological Science materials, but each could be read on its own. Thus, students could use them for their current work or to pursue personal interests.

This topic review reviews evidence from investigations to study communities and populations in ecosystems. This review was intended to stress the need for more than lip service to be paid to the ways in which plants may interfere with each other and the consequences of this interference. It was intended to focus attention on the reaction of a plant to its neighbours as a critical, often the most critical, part of the autecology of a species and to suggest that this type of study has a cementing and unifying function in the science of plant ecology.
