Year One/Two Spring Term

This resource has been created for mixed age classes working in lower primary years. The two weekly plans support learning about counting, addition, subtraction and place value and contain differentiated activities for the different year groups, guided tasks and the resources required for each lesson. Objectives covered in the lessons include:

Week One

Year One

  • Count to 100 in 1s and 10s
  • Find one more or one less than any number to 100
  • Count in 10s from 10
  • Find 10 more and 10 less than a given number
  • Estimate a quantity

Year Two

  • Compare numbers using < and >
  • Identify properties of numbers and use this to sort them
  • Use ordinal numbers in context up to 10th and beyond
  • Round two-digit numbers to nearest multiple of ten
  • Use mental methods, partitioning, to do place value additions and subtractions

Week Two

Year One

  • Know bonds to 6, 8, 9 and 10
  • Add more than two small numbers, spotting pairs to ten and doubles, record

Year Two

  • Use pairs to ten to find the complement to the next multiple
  • Add/subtract a single-digit to/from a 2-digit number by bridging multiples of ten using knowledge of number facts and place value
  • Understand that addition can be done in any order, but not subtraction. Method used is mental addition and subtraction with place value and partitioning.
