Robotic Surgery

This video, from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), explains how mechatronics, the combination of mechanical engineering, electronics and computer science, are used to develop robots. This example shows how mechatronics is being applied to the field of robotic assisted surgery. The Da Vinci system allows surgeons to perform microscopic keyhole surgery. Sensors are being developed to allow the surgeon to be able to ‘feel’ inside the body.
