Specialised Cells -EAL

This resource includes a set of activities to link the features of specialised cells to their function and focus on the language needed to describe and to explain. There are several powerpoints which include all the cards and worksheets needed to run the activities described in the teaching notes.

  • The reference booklet gives infomation about the specialised cells and a glossary of key vocabulary for the students to complete. 
  • The specialised cells flashcards can be used as an activity to match specialised cell diagrams to a name and then to a function.
  • The graphic organiser is a useful tool to help students gather information about the various cell types and present it in an easy to read format.
  • The substitution tables contain differentiated tools to help students develop their language when describing a cell and explaining its function.
  • The cloze activity also helps to improve the use of students scientific key words and can be differentiated.
