Energy of objectives in a gravitational field

These diagnostic questions and response activities (contained in the zip file) support students in being able to:

  • State that the energy in the gravitational store depends only on the mass of an object and its position in the gravitational field.
  • Describe how gravitational field strength affects the amount of energy in the gravitational store.
  • Explain how the work done by a force can change the amount of energy in the gravitational store.
  • Predict how one quantity in the equation ΔE_grav=mgh is affected by changes in the other quantities.
  • Carry out calculations using the equation ΔE_grav=mgh that require rearranging the equation. The resources include details of common misconceptions and a summary of the research upon which the resources are based.

Download the zip file for all the questions and activities.
