Shape Activities for Students Aged 9-11
A selection of resources, published by BEAM, for teachers of primary mathematics. They include challenging problems and puzzles, open-ended investigations, cross-curricular activities and resources to practise and consolidate students' understanding of shape and space. The activities, with their mathematical content, are: *Birds-eye view - identifying shapes from above *Circle pattern - connecting points inon a circle to make a pattern *Directions - moving by compass directions *Four sides - making quadrilaterals on a nine-pin pegbord *Hexagon and others - making shapes from congruent triangles *In reflec town - words with symmetry *Looking - investigating the number of squares in a pattern *Shapes puzzle - finding which shapes can be made with two right angled triangles *Slicing pizza - investigating the number of pieces produced by different cuts *Square puzzle - fitting triangles together to make a square *Symmetry challenge - drawing reflections with the mirror line at an angle.
