Nuffield Home Economics: Teachers’ Guide to the Basic Course

The Basic Course of Nuffield Home Economics was designed for students aged 11–14. The project was supported by the Nuffield Foundation and devised in collaboration with trial schools and with industrial consultants.

The teachers' guide was designed to provide maximum support to help teachers to interpret the project's materials and to achieve its aims and objectives. The authors made no assumptions about previous scientific knowledge but gave detailed accounts of many scientific concepts.

Each chapter in the guide began with an introduction to the topic, with notes on time allocation and lists of extension work, and worksheet and OHP (Overhead Projector) masters for the chapter. There was a table summarising the contents of the chapter, with the concepts and skills to be developed and the background science.

Contents
As in the student textbook, the teachers’ guide covers the four areas of study:
* Food science (chapters 1-7)
* Nutrition (chapters 8-15)
* Fibres and fabrics (chapters 16-22)
* People and homes (chapters 23-30)
