From Quarry to Food Cans

This Problem Solving with Industry module was devised by the Centre for Science Education in collaboration with ICI Tunstead Quarry in Derbyshire. In this module the problem is to devise and carry out tests on samples of lime to select the best sample for use in self-heating cans.

Tasks
* Task 1 – preparing a report about the limestone industry as a result of an enquiry from a group of school children.
* Task 2 - planning a practical investigation and compiling a report in answer to a query from a company that makes self-heating cans.
* Task 3 - carrying out the investigation planned in the previous task.
* Task 4 - reporting back on the findings of the investigation and making a recommendation as to the most appropriate lime sample.
