The Decimal Place 2

This resource from Teachers TV features John Rawlings, Adviser for Neath Port Talbot, as he chairs a discussion between mathematics consultant Richard Dunne and Pamela Morgan, mathematics teacher at Baglan Primary School, where they review the lesson featured in the programme The Decimal Place 1.

The panel discusses Pamela's focus on the representation of decimals and how they can be written with the same value but a different appearance. They also discuss the benefits of students being able to talk through calculations in groups and the positive effect this has with confidence and understanding.

This programme also looks at how other techniques are used to introduce decimals. Claire Pudner, from Godre'rgraig Primary School, uses the number stick and line method and Janine Mundy, from Gnoll Primary School uses a 100 square grid and money.

Rachel Harris, one of the students featured in this programme, sadly died some months after the programme was filmed. Teachers TV thanks Rachel's parents for permission to continue showing the programmes, and sends deep sympathy to her family, friends and teachers.
