The Shape Show

This resource from Teachers TV begins with a review of the properties of some quadrilaterals and triangles which are then related to the shapes which can be found in all aspects of the environment, described as looking at the world with a mathematical eye.

First, there is the case of the disappearing shapes, an animated sequence which takes a fun look at how the world would be without four sided shapes.

The next section is called Getting Into Shape and demonstrates how implicit shapes can be abstracted from explicit shapes seen in the environment. This is followed by a sequence at the shape gym which explores the properties of triangles and how they fit within quadrilaterals.

Finally, there is Shapes Within Shapes where a police-style line up is used to review the properties of the parallelogram, rhombus and trapezium. Following the disappearance of these four sided shapes, a demonstration shows how triangles of all types are filling the gaps that have been left.
