Nuffield Chemistry: Guide to Chemistry Apparatus

The Guide to Chemistry Apparatus set out the requirements for the class experiments and teacher demonstrations suggested for Stages I and II of the Nuffield Chemistry Basic Course.

Notable changes in practice for the 11-16 age range encouraged by the authors of the course that are reflected in the list include the use of:
*single-pan or top-pan balances
*centrifuges as an alternative to filtering
*100 cm3 glass gas syringes for quantitative work with gases
*a G-M tube and counter for demonstrations using radioactive tracers
*8-mm projectors to show short film loops that animate concepts and illustrate applications
*apparatus to measure energy changes in chemical reactions
*polystyrene spheres to model crystal structures.
