Triple Science Case Study: Providing Lessons Outside the School Day
From triple science support, this case study illustrates how a school provided extra lessons before school to dramatically increase the triple science take up, leading to greater progression to sciences post-16.
The case study includes some background information about St Gregory’s Catholic High School (Warrington) and the move from ‘single’ science as being the norm towards triple science taking its place. Unable to fit triple science GCSEs within the existing school timetable, teachers ran extra lessons before school by being flexible with staff time and make triple science feel ‘special’ to students. Student voice surveys of attitudes to triple science are presented, alongside descriptions of how the school has involved parents, changed the format of homework and used a STEM club and competitions.
