Data Sets: Calculating an Estimate of the Mean
The first sheet of this excel file shows the number of passengers per flight from London to Paris. The raw data is shown in a grouped frequency table and the midpoint of each group can be revealed as well as each stage in the calculation of the estimate of the mean. The next two sheets each show two sets of data which are dealt with in the same manner so that the calculated estimates of the mean can be compared. There are seven more sheets of questions which may be suitable for use in the classroom.
Note: this program was designed by be viewed on a screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768. Users may have to adjust the resolution of their screen for the pages to display as was originally intended. The program uses macros which need to be enabled on users' machines.
