SEP: Professional Development

Professional Development is one of the publication themes of the Gatsby Science Enhancement Programme.

SEP has collaborated with a number of other organisations in developing a range of publications concerned with the professional development of teachers at all stages of their careers. Two of these publications are now available in the eLibrary.

The Beginning Science Teachers’ Handbook (produced in partnership with the Associate for Science Education) is intended for newly qualified teachers and their mentors. It provides activities that can be used as part of an induction programme and in the early years of teaching.

Physical Science Subject Knowledge and Pedagogy (produced in partnership with the University of Birmingham) is intended for Initial Teacher Training mentors and Advanced Skills Teachers. The materials can be used to develop teachers’ understanding and pedagogic skills to support the teaching of physical sciences.
