Geological Processes

The Geological Processes sub-collection is made up of pedagogical guidance and classroom materials for use with students. All materials were published by the Key Stage Three Strategy and the Secondary Strategy in 2004.

Context
Geological processes was not one of the original five ‘key ideas’ within the Key Stage Three strategy but the Strengthening Teaching and Learning of Geological Processes in Key Stage Three Science continuing professional development (CPD) unit was added to support teachers who had no formal geology training. Geological processes are very abstract in nature because of their long timescales and the fact that they are often hidden from view,

Development
The Strengthening Teaching and Learning of Geological Processes in Key Stage Three Science CPD unit supported participants with detailed progression support and pedagogical guidance as well as improving non-subject specialists’ understanding of the topic. The CPD unit also provided classroom support materials to use with students comprising of rock cycle diagrams, task cards, stimulus photographs and video clips.
