Changing Futures: Cystic Fibrosis

Produced by Nowgen and the Wellcome Trust, the Changing Futures materials help students to understand the causes, effects and treatments of cystic fibrosis (CF). This is one of the most common genetic conditions in the UK.

The project team included young people with CF, artists, scientists and people working in education and healthcare. The result is a series of video clips and activities that explore CF and how gene therapy could be used to treat it.

This section of the materials looks at cystic fibrosis, its causes and the effects it has on people with the disorder. The materials include:
* The cause of cystic fibrosis
* How CF affects the body
* Interviews with medical professionals who work with CF patients
* How to make your own mucus
* Video diaries of teenagers with CF
* Physiotherapy exercises linked to music

The other section in the Changing Futures collection describes developments in gene therapy and how this technique may be used to treat sufferers with cystic fibrosis.
