Once upon a time

Join Rosetta and Philae on their journey to rendezvous with a comet in these animated videos. The fairytale begins at launch and follows the comet-chasing duo on their voyage to Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Each stage of the mission is brought to life and explained in a child-friendly way, including: the history of comets, the journey to the comet, landing on the comet and what this has told us about comets.

These animations have been produced by the European Space Agency, (ESA).

Fabulous fables and tales of tails

In this short animation Rosetta and Philae learn about the history of comets from their grandfather, Giotto. They think about how people have observed comets from Earth and wondered about these mysterious objects, excited that they are on a mission to find out more...

Are we there yet?

This short animations joins Rosetta and Philae on their journey to meet Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. After a 10 year journey, Rosetta and Philae are impatient to arrive at their destination!

Wake up Rosetta

This short animation follows Rosetta on the journey to rendezvous with a comet, observing what she sees on the way. Join Rosetta as she wakes up ready to complete her mission.

Arrival

This short animation follows the journey of Rosetta and Philae as they finally approach the comet called 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenkoafter a journey of ten years. As they get closer to the comet, Rosetta takes stunning pictures and wonders about what they will find there.

Preparing for comet landing

This short animation joins Rosetta and her lander Philae as they arrive at  Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko after a 10 year journey. Rosetta begins to study the surface of the comet and look for a suitable place for Philae to land.

Comet landing

This short animation follows Rosetta nd Philae as they investigate Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. After three months of investigating the comet, Philae parts from Rosetta and lands on the surface of the comet ready to find out more.

Living with a comet

This short animation re-tell the story of the Rosetta Mission in a child-friendly and accessible way. In this episode Rosetta tells us what she has learned in her first year studying Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, and Philae wakes up from hibernation.

Rosetta's grand finale

Rosetta revisits the exciting scientific discoveries she made during her time at Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, including the successful search to find Philae. Finally, she starts preparing to descend to the comet for the end of her extraordinary mission.

Mission complete

On the last day of her incredible mission, Rosetta slowly descends to the surface of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. After having sent her extraordinary data back home, she is ready to join Philae for a well deserved rest on the comet. But is there one last surprise in store?
