Controlling Movement Using a Computer at Key Stage One: Roamer Bus

One of the trial units from the Nuffield Primary Solutions in Design and Technology. Children investigate the movement of vehicles, from those they may have made, to commercial toys; from push along toys to remote controlled toys and a computer-controlled floor robot. The control of the floor robot will be the context for a storytelling activity.

A floor robot becomes a school bus and is sent along a route by the children. Working in teams, they build a story around the bus journey and record their instructions to the robot on program sheets.
