Activity Case Study 15: Colin Glen

This STEMNET activity case study describes how Colin Glen, a project manager for a construction company, is motivating future engineers through his work as a STEM Ambassador.

Along with a variety of other Ambassadors, Colin took part in a Business in Maths day at his old secondary school, talking to students about the construction of two fictitious buildings. They looked at times they took to build and worked out the costs and returns on investment. Students learned how important maths is for many careers.

“The fact that I could say ‘I was one of you guys’ got their attention. They really enjoyed using maths in a commercial, real life way, and got a huge buzz out of the big exciting figures!”
