Revised Nuffield Chemistry: Teachers’ Guide II

Revised Nuffield Chemistry offered two routes through Stage II. Stage IIA followed the same general order as in the original Sample Scheme but with modifications such as some new experiments and a delayed introduction of some conceptually demanding content.

Stage IIB was more radical in its approach. Special features included:
*incorporation of social and applied aspects of chemistry earlier in Stage II
*avoidance of content with high-conceptual demand in the early topics
*provision of a balanced course for those ending their study of chemistry after the first year of Stage II (the end of year 9)
*the opportunity to introduce Stage III options at an earlier point in the programme.

Revised Teachers’ Guide II also included three supplementary topics to cover atomic structure and bonding. These topics were not examined in the O-level testing of Stage II but could optionally be covered in one of the Stage III options.
