Technology for Ages 5 to 16: Proposals of the Secretary of State 1992
Following the establishment of the 1989/90 National Curriculum for Design and Technology, the Secretary of State for Education and Science and Secretary of State for Wales made proposals regarding the revision of the National Curriculum for Design and Technology.
The key proposals were:
*the number of Attainment Targets to be reduced from four to two
*a substantial reduction in the amount of products students are required to make; and a greater emphasis placed on the quality rather than upon the quantity of what students have to design and make
*the number of statements of attainment reduced from 117 to 59, a 50% decrease, so there were now 110 programme of study statements covering Key Stages One and Two compared with 158 in the existing Order
*work with construction materials as well as electronic and mechanical components had a central place in the revised Order
*the emphasis on making a manageable range of high quality products, and the specification of the essential knowledge and skills intended to help to ensure students' work is rigorous and intellectually demanding.
