Technology Programmes of Study and Attainment Targets: Recommendations 1993

Produced in 1993, this National Curriculum Council document was written to respond to the Secretary of State for Education’s proposals to address issues with the National Curriculum for technology at the time.

The key responses to the proposals include:
*The scope of ‘technology’– clarifying the description and breadth of the subject
*Clarity, manageability and flexibility – further reduction in complexity and demand on students
*Food, and business and industrial practices – the place of these within technology
*Non-statutory guidance should be provided should be provided to help teachers turn the programmes of study into effective schemes of work
*Information technology and design and technology should not be brought together arbitrarily as the National Curriculum subject ‘technology’.
