Nuffield Co-ordinated Sciences – Single Science: Physics

The Nuffield Co-ordinated Sciences supplementary Worksheets and Teachers' guide for Physics enabled teachers to prepare students for separate-subject Physics GCSE examinations. The extra worksheets were arranged to fit in with the topics in the teaching order suggested for the main course.

There were two extension strands to make up the full subject:

(1) Computational physics A more detailed and quantitative treatment of some ideas in the Nuffield Co-ordinated Sciences Physics course.

The aim was to develop numerical competence, and the ability to interpret and communicate with graphs and vectors. Also covered were an introduction to the use of dice to show how random events can lead to predictable behaviour.

(2) Communication Enrichment of scientific understanding through applying knowledge to new areas. Applications if physical principles to modern technological developments. Opportunities to revisit the topics of electromagnetic induction, electrical switching, and internal reflection. The distinction between analogue and digital coding.
