Developing Staff Capability to Deliver Functional Maths

Produced by the Learning Skills Improvement Service, these materials help to demonstrate effective practice. This case study, from Network Learning Centres UK Ltd, looks at the theme of embedding functional skills. In this instance, the planned implementation of functional skills was broken into four stages. This case study covers stage one and part of stage two which describe: • Assessing an organisation’s current capability to deliver functional skills • Assessing training needs for staff • Preparing an action plan to be functional skills ready • Running a briefing session for staff on functional skills • Sourcing and evaluating initial assessment and diagnostic tools. The study illustrates the use of questionnaires, internal staff meetings, external workshops, and staff projects to research and evaluate information assessment tools and other resources.
