Improving Learning at A Level Chemistry

Produced by the Learning Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), this case study tackles the themes of curriculum development and progression through STEM. Written by New College Durham, it details the strategies that were implemented over a two year period to improve student engagement and achievement at A level chemistry.

The course leader implemented a series of changes that enhanced the student experience and led to significant improvements in achievement. These strategies included:
* implementing more clearly structured practical activities
* modelling and role play activities
* use of online resources to support learning and understanding.

These were achieved by making full use of professional development opportunities to engage with other colleagues and professionals with the full support of the college.
