Enhancing Student Skills Within Biology Investigations

Produced by the Learning Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), this case study looks at the themes of innovation in STEM and harnessing technology. It describes how the biology team at Bexhill College used a differentiated ‘Focus Question’ approach to practical investigations.

Students were made more aware of the ‘How Science Works’ (HSW) aspects of practical investigations and also how to identify it in other scientists’ investigations. Sharing their responses to the focus questions via flip cam recording helped the students to assess and reflect on their own learning.
