Triple Science Case Study: Identifying Students Early

From triple science support, this case study illustrates how a school used a combination of identifying potential triple science students as early as Year Eight with student perspectives on the triple science courses and their reasons for choosing it.

The case study includes some background information about Beal High School (Redbridge) and how its triple science runs alongside other science courses, as well as student perspectives of triple science.

Key learning points for others are identified and include:

• the use of subject specialist teachers from Year Nine to bring an extra passion and confidence about the subject into the teaching

• talking to Year Eight students about the opportunity of triple science to encourage uptake

• making triple science groups feel special in order to motivate students and support parents in raising expectations.
