Inside STEM careers: investigating antioxidants

Produced by Science & Plants for Schools (SAPS), these materials look at the work of plant research scientist, Jess Chu. Through investigating vitamin C in plants, students gain a greater understanding of the career opportunities available in plant biology.

Jess is looking into the anticancer properties of the rainforest plants. Areas of rainforests are being destroyed and this threatens many tropical plants with extinction, before their possible medicinal use has been investigated.

The materials include full teacher guidance and student information sheets. These cover:
* career case study and questions
* testing plants for vitamin C using DCPIP solution
* calculating vitamin C concentrations
* plants as chemical factories
