Athletics Track
The application of mathematics is the focus of this resource, provided by the Centre for Innovation in Mathematics Teaching. Students are given information which relates to the layout of an athletics track and are guided through a series of activities that have been designed to prompt class discussion and develop mathematical thinking.
Targeting mainstream Year Nine students this could be implemented as a cross-curricular exercise with the physical education department. The teachers' notes provide a detailed structure for planning lessons, as well as the relevant solutions to calculations.
