Iodine Clock

This video shows an eye-catching colour change demonstration in which a colourless solution suddenly changes to a dark-blue after an amount of time. It is known as the 'iodine clock' as there is a delay before the colour change. The demonstration is particularly well-suited as an introduction to reaction rates and kinetics.

This resource was produced following National Science & Engineering Week 2013, during which teachers and technicians nominated their favourite demonstrations to be turned into video resources with accompanying written guides.

This resource was funded by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation.
