Brackets

This resource contains two excel programs; ‘Removing and Collecting Like Terms’ and ‘Multiplying Out and Simplifying’, each containing a series of interactive spreadsheets designed to explore how to deal with brackets.

Removing and Collecting Like Terms begins with two spreadsheets for use in the classroom when explaining how to expand brackets of the form a(bx±c). Further spreadsheets are designed to explain how to expand and simplify expressions of the form a(bx±c) ± d(ex±f). The final spreadsheets contain a number of worksheets for use for consolidation.

Multiplying Out and Simplifying begins with spreadsheet for use in the classroom when explaining how double brackets, each containing a linear expression of the form (x+a), are expanded using a grid. There follows two further spreadsheets for consolidation. Further spreadsheets explore the expansion of (x+a)(x-b) and (x-a)(x-b) culminating in the expansion of (ax±b)(cx±d). The final spreadsheets contain a number of worksheets for use for consolidation.

This program was designed to be viewed on a screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768. Users may have to adjust the resolution of their screen for the pages to display as was originally intended. The program uses macros which need to be enabled on a machine.
