Fractions, Decimals and Percentages

This series of interactive excel sheets explore fractions, decimals and percentages. Answers can be checked each time and new questions generated at the click of a button.

In the first sheet selecting a denominator generates a value, between 0 and 1, represented on a number line. Students then have to state the number as a decimal, fraction and percentage.

The second sheet generates a series of five questions in which students have to round measures to the nearest whole number. In the following sheet the five values can be rounded to the nearest hundred, ten, whole, tenth or hundredth.

The fourth sheet generates a fraction to be converted to a decimal, percentage and to a fraction out of one hundred. Values can be revealed one at a time in any order.

In the fifth sheet students explore why certain fractions generate recurring decimals by selecting a numerator and denominator to make a range of fractions and decimals displayed to 35 decimal places.

In the next sheet students have to select the ‘greater than’ or ‘less than’ signs between pairs of fractions and percentages. To help, the decimal equivalent can also be revealed.

The seventh sheet asks students to place five fractions in ascending order. The difficulty level can be changed and hints can also be shown. The following sheet asks students to order a mixture of fractions, decimals and percentages. The decimal equivalent of the five values can be revealed to help.

The ninth sheet generates a series of fraction, decimal or percentage of an amount questions. Parts of each question can be revealed or hidden, and the level of difficulty adjusted.

The final sheet sets out a series of four examples showing how to convert from a worded fraction to a percentages via a succession of steps.
