Collage

Purpose: The camera built into many mobile digital devices is an effective way of recording the equipment used in practical science, and the outcomes of investigations.  A sequence of recorded images displayed as a collage, with annotations added, is a simple and quick way to communicate procedures and findings to others. It also encourages the learner to reflect on their work and to identify key features.

Teaching approach: Throughout an investigation use the camera in a mobile device to record key features, such as assembling apparatus, making measurements, records of data, outcomes of data analysis. The images are then selected using a collage app where they can be sequenced, cropped and resized, before annotations are added. The outcome of this processing is a single image of the completed collage which can then be printed or shared with others.

Preparation: Each group of students require a mobile device with camera, and a collage app, such as Pic Collage installed. Permissions need to be given for the app to access the photo collection on the device.
