Calculating where Space begins?

This resource, from the Royal Observatory Greenwich, begins with a video that names and describes some the different layers of the atmosphere, with the aim of explaining where the Kármán line can be found - which is commonly used to define the boundary between Earth and space.

After watching the video, key stage 5 students can attempt to determine the Kármán line for themselves. The Kármán line was originally suggested as the point at which conventional aircraft would be unable to fly, so in the worksheet students will be encouraged to work this out for themselves by comparing the force due to gravity, and the lift that an aircraft can get as the pressure decreases with altitude.
