Separation Science
This activity, from the Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche, is a video supported by pupil activities.
In the first part of the video the importance of separating substances using everyday examples is discussed and the techniques that can be used. This is then extended to explain why separation techniques are important in producing drugs. Next the video defines the important key words and different types of separating equipment and there are some activities on the video to check understanding. Finally, with the support of a worksheet, the video asks pupils to discuss the best ways to separate different mixtures, and then describe and explain what will happen.
