Approaching design and technology

This is a students book illustrating and explaining the processes involved in designing. The book illustrates through examples design and technological activity within a range of contexts; home, school, recreation, community, business and industry.

At the end of each section some pages are devoted to following through four example activities which gradually develop throughout the book, which are:

  • Cycling for recreation, which includes designing a small removable trailer
  • How the elderly are cared for at home and in the community
  • Retail outlets for hand-made jewellery, incorporating aspects of art and design, metalwork and business and economics
  • The development of young children, leading to the design of a baby alarm.

The teachers' set includes a copy of the students book plus approximately 16 pages of teachers' notes and includes two double-page spreads showing how the students book fulfils the requirements of the NCC 'Consultation report on technology'.
