Building a Picture of What Children Can Do
This resource from the National Assessment Agency (NAA) came into being as a result of the changes in the statutory assessment of children at the end of Key Stage One in 2005. A key aim of the changes to the assessment arrangements was to emphasise the importance of teachers’ assessment of a child's progress and how this was to be used in conjunction with the National Curriculum tests and tasks.
The booklet was produced to help teachers understand the new arrangements and to model their use with children working at a range of levels and was intended to be used within training sessions or as part of whole school development activities.
Although it was written to meet the immediate needs of Year Two teachers and others involved in end of Key Stage One assessments in 2005, the descriptions of children's work at particular levels and advice about using evidence to support teacher assessment could be useful for teachers working in other year groups in primary schools.
