Science in the Environment Pack 5: Managing Plants as Crops
The University of York Science Education Group ensured that all the Science in the Environment packs were organised according to broad environmental themes. Within each pack, a number of specific contexts were used to introduce the science content. In addition, each pack focused on the acquisition of particular skills and introduced broader aspects of science or the environment.
Features of Pack 5
*Contexts: improvement in crop varieties; sustainable agriculture; genetically modified goods
*Science Content: reproduction and inheritance; adaptation to environment; DNA structure and function
*Skills Emphasised: communication skills; presenting, arguing and defending a case; working in a group
*Broader Dimensions: social, cultural, ethical, economic and biotechnological aspects of science; risk assessment
