Linking Textiles and Electronics at Key Stage Three

This set of course materials from the National STEM Learning Centre and Network were designed to build an understanding of how electronics can be combined with textiles at Key Stage Three, starting with simple circuits and leading to more complex programming and effects.

The practical sessions ran from week two to week six of the course, and each week’s handout supported the session with clear technical advice with photographs and diagrams to illustrate the instructions:
Week 2 – the use of DaisyPIC boards to create simple circuits in textiles
Week 3 - textile components as switches
Week 4 - programmable circuits to make music
Week 5 - light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that switch on in the dark
Week 6 - types of switches
