Unit 4: Into the Earth
Unit 4 of the Geology: Structure of the Earth series, produced by Northumberland County Council, leads on from the third unit, which looked at the effects of earthquakes on the surface of the Earth, to now discover the effects inside the Earth. Students find out about how earthquakes waves behave below the Earth's crust, the properties of specimens and what information is available, and the link between meteorites and the Earth's interior.
At the end of the unit, students are expected to understand the behaviour of light waves, seismic waves, properties of the layers which make up the Earth's interior and the reasons for the differences between layers. As in previous units, Unit 4 contains a variety of activities, experiments and questions, including essay questions and a self-assessment section.
