Selenia in the Dead Sea Adventure

Learn about the properties of solids and liquids and dissolving in this colourful comic aimed at students in Key Stage Two. Written to promote enquiry skills in a context, it focuses on planning investigative work and evaluating evidence before carrying out an investigation on the different densities of salt and fresh water.

In this episode, Selenia and her friends travel to Israel and are surprised by how they float in the Dead Sea. She wants to find out why it is easier to water which has salt dissolved in it than in fresh water.

Teachers' notes provide a link from the comic to the investigation and include an explanation of density. They also provide curriculum links, extension opportunities, equipment list, and a planning sheet.

This resource, provided by the University of the West of England is part of a collection of science comics which aim to engage children with science and reading.
