Filtering the Truth

This activity asks students to work in teams to design an experiment or experiments which will test the claims of companies producing various types of domestic water filtration equipment. All teams can be given the same advert or all four adverts can be distributed for differentiation purposes. Students consider whether the claims have any basis in science, whether they are written in such a way that they can be tested and whether there are any figures to check.

This activity, from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), can be used as a stand-alone resource or with the other resources in the World Water collection.
