Snail Hunt (Key Stage 1)

This activity introduces Darwin’s ideas on evolution by looking at variation, adaptation and distribution of banded snails. Children learn about Charles Darwin, then work as science explorers looking at different habitats and the snails found in them. Using correct vocabulary, they describe habitats and the snails they find. They then choose one habitat to collect snails, counting and recording the different types they find. The teachers' notes include background knowledge of the banded snail and guidance on running the activity. This resource has been produced by Evolution Megalab and links to the following resources: Snail Activities and How to Hunt Banded Snails.
