Day Out

In this Bowland assessment task, students plan a day out for thirty pupils based upon data given. Students are provided with three places from which to choose. Information about the distance from the school and the entrance cost of each activity is given, along with the results of a survey in which each of the thirty pupils have stated their first and second choice. Students are required to simplify the task, summarise the unsorted data and represent the data mathematically. Costs need to be calculated and analysis interpreted in order to make a decision of which of the three suggestions is visited. Teacher guidance includes concepts which may be discussed with students, examples of probing questions which may be useful and assumptions that students need to make when completing the task. The assessment guidance consists of a progression table detailing how students may improve in each of the key processes. The resource concludes with a number of examples of students' work, together with comments, probing questions and feedback.
