Soft Drinks

In this Bowland assessment task, students are presented with the results of two surveys aimed at determining whether a new drink was preferred by teenagers or adults. The task is to determine whether or not the two surveys were fair and to suggest improvements to the method of testing. Students are required to show that they understand why the tests were unfair, find a way to compare the data and to justify their conclusions. Teacher guidance includes concepts which may be discussed with students, examples of probing questions which may be useful and assumptions that students need to make when completing the task. The assessment guidance consists of a progression table detailing how students may improve in each of the key processes. The resource concludes with a number of examples of students' work, together with comments, probing questions and feedback.
